Agricultural Geography Practice Test

The concept here is biodiversity—the variety of living organisms in a geographic area. Biodiversity covers the richness and variety of life at multiple levels: different species present, the genetic diversity within those species, and the range of ecosystems in a landscape. In agricultural geography, high biodiversity can enhance resilience to pests and climate events, support pollination, improve soil health, and sustain food security by offering a wider base of genetic resources for crops and livestock.

Local food movement focuses on where food is produced and how it is sourced and distributed, rather than the variety of life in a place. Overgrazing describes a land-management problem where too many animals eat vegetation, leading to degradation, not the overall diversity of organisms. A food desert refers to an area with limited access to affordable, nutritious food, which is about food availability and access rather than biological variety.
